A disputed execution is not resolved simply by showing that a chart touched a particular price. The question is whether the order was handled according to the applicable instructions, available quotations, and the broker’s published execution rules. Establishing those facts requires a record of what happened, not just a screenshot of the eventual loss.
When challenging a fill with a Forex and online CFD trading broker, the strongest approach separates evidence collection from allegations of wrongdoing. Five steps help identify whether a disagreement concerns market conditions, order settings, system behavior, or an actual failure to follow policy.
Preserve the Original Order Evidence
Begin with the order ticket and confirmation, including the instrument, direction, quantity, requested price, execution price, order type, and transaction reference. Save the platform’s detailed history before routine retention limits or software updates make it harder to retrieve.
Record the relevant server time and its timezone. A screenshot captured several minutes later may show a different market state, while a chart candle usually summarizes prices rather than proving which bid or offer was executable at a particular instant.
Keep communications and any platform error messages alongside the trade record. They can establish whether an instruction was amended, canceled, or resubmitted before the disputed fill.
Reconstruct the Price and Order Sequence
A useful complaint states precisely which event is contested: the trigger, the fill, the size executed, or the time recorded. These are separate questions and may require different evidence.
Imagine a hypothetical short position in a platinum CFD covering 200 ounces. A buy stop intended to close the position triggers at $1,025 per ounce during a sudden reduction in available offers. The platform reports a fill at $1,031, adding $1,200 to the exit cost compared with execution at the trigger.
The difference alone does not prove an error. Request the bid and offer quotations relevant to the order, timestamps for triggering and execution, and an explanation of the available liquidity. If the order was guaranteed at $1,025 under valid terms, however, the contractual question changes substantially.
Match the Outcome Against the Applicable Policy
Locate the version of the execution policy and product terms effective when the transaction occurred. Current website wording may have changed since the disputed trade.
Check how the provider defines stop activation, market execution, partial fills, slippage, and exceptional conditions. Identify any disclosed discretion to reject instructions or adjust erroneous prices, together with the safeguards governing its use.
A result can be unfavorable yet compliant with the agreed process. Conversely, an execution that appears financially harmless can reveal a procedural breach. The size of the loss is not a reliable test of whether an instruction was handled correctly.
Submit a Specific Written Complaint
Contact the designated complaints function of the Forex and online CFD trading broker rather than relying solely on a live-chat conversation. Include the account reference, trade identifier, chronology, supporting documents, and the particular policy provision requiring explanation.
Ask for a written determination addressing the execution records and reasoning, not merely a statement that prices were volatile. State the remedy sought, such as a correction of an erroneous fill or reimbursement of a demonstrable difference, without assuming compensation is automatically due.
Preserve the complaint acknowledgment and track the response deadline specified by the provider’s procedures or applicable rules.
Escalate Without Losing the Evidence Trail
If the response is incomplete, use the appropriate internal escalation channel and then check whether an external financial ombudsman, regulator, or authorized dispute-resolution body can consider the complaint. Eligibility, deadlines, and available remedies depend on the jurisdiction and contractual entity.
A regulator may investigate conduct without deciding an individual compensation claim. Understanding that distinction helps direct the dispute to a body capable of addressing the requested outcome.
Before placing a CFD position, locate the broker’s complaint procedure, execution policy, and trade-history export controls. Save those documents and verify that the platform records order identifiers and precise timestamps. Having that evidence available before an execution problem occurs makes any later challenge substantially easier to substantiate.
